Dear Keithho

I find it very sad that you would go as low as this. I think everyone present in stanshawes on that night know exactly what happened and nothing you said here is true. Few things, you were late, and had a go at the waitress that the place is impossible to find that's why you were late? How is that her fault? maybe tomtom would come handy next time? You were also extremely rude to the waitress who at the end of the day is just a kid trying to do her best at first job, well done I am sure you've helped with her self esteem and confidence. As for the food, the menu clearly stated CREAMY mushrooms, so no idea why order if cannot eat it due to health issues. What I could not get is if you were not happy with your food why not simply send it back to kitchen? why play with food like a bunch of kids? Oh yes we watched you cutting your mixed grilles into tiny pieces and then sending it back, why? we've also watched you when you decided that 2 for 1 is still far too dear and tried to pull fast one so complaint just about everything, oh yeah and it's not you who decided not to have desserts you were simply told that enough is enough, and yes you got that, what was it £20? off your bill after embarrassing yourself and told not to come back, (please do not) so that was not your decision either! So please if you want to say things about pubs/restaurants you go to at least have a decency to be honest about it cause you never know just who might be watching you? For one I have to thank you, you made our night, no need for comedians when people like yourself are around. good day to you.

Stanshaws is the worst dining experience I have ever had. I belong to a group of friends, about 16,who dine together every 2 months. We booked Stanshaws about 5 weeks previously for a party of 15 at half past seven (one couple are older and prefer not to eat too late). We arrived promptly at 7:30 and were shown to our table. By quarter past eight, after, several times, asking the waitress if we could order, we ordered our food. One of our party is sensitive to dairy products and one one the starters was mushrooms sauteed with sherry which sounds good but the waitress was asked if there was any cream in the sauce. She disappeared into the kitchen and on returning reported that the chef assured her that there wasn't.
At nine o'clock our starters turned up, after a hour and a half after sitting down, with mushrooms in a very creamy sauce. The lady who had ordered them sent them back explaining that they would make her quite ill and she would give the starter. a miss. At about a quarter to ten our main course arrived, two orders of tuna had been replaced with salmon and the chips had been replaced with boiled potatoes. Two of our group had ordered mixed grille and the meat was burned, the steaks black and solid. Everybodys veg was cold and the lady who sent the starter back had ostritch steak, medium. There were two slivers of meat no more than 5mm thick and burnt, so they went back as well along with the mixed grilles. No-one was brave enough to order deserts so we asked for the bill. When it arrived it was not itemised but seemed very high. We asked for an itemised bill but were told that this couldn't be provided as the chef and the manager had gone home. We made a list of what we had eaten and we had been charged for the creamy starter and for the mixed grilles which had been sent back and not replaced. Eventually we provided our own itemised bill which detailed exactly what we had eaten and offered to pay, in full, this amount. It took more than half an hour of arguing before this was finally accepted.
As I said in the beginning we are regular diners and we have never, ever had this fiasco before. It was a evening completely ruined.
Needless to say we will not be going back. Ever.

I wish I was loaded! If I was, I would buy and renovate this pub as this is what is really needed. It is a fantastic building and has a great big beer garden that should be used to it's full advantage.

I honestly think that if someone like like Toby could take it over into a carvery, it would be packed full all the time. At the moment though, it is a great and safe place to bring the kids when it is hot (And they do a great bank holiday event) but really needs this money to renovate it.

I only visited this place once or twice in almost twenty years living in the Yate-Sodbury area [and only a ten minute walk away!!].

That was a good few years ago now.
Then - and I emphasise t h e n - Stanshawes was OK.

Not exciting. but civilized.

This century - I have no idea whatsoever what this place is now like.
Try it yourself - and report to this website.
