I've been visiting this pub every time I've been in Scarborough since 1993 and I've always found the beers to be in excellent condition and cannot agree with earlier comments, and always look forward to visiting this favourite watering hole!

Beer is very poor. Most pints are either off or on the turn. This pub is however popular with a small band of regulars who must have become used to the beer served. Lager is also poor - forget any ideas of a crisp clean pint of lager. The Landlord has done much to 'improve' the pub recently by adding a TV and a pool room.

The last comments sum up this pub..Nice pub.. Good decor.. LOUSY BEER... Nearly always on the turn...Or OFF!.. Try somewher else. The North Riding Hotel... The Valley.. Cellars.. Scholars.. For real good ale.

Not the force it used to be when Malton Ales were regularly on tap here. The Theakstons I had was very average. Definitely on a downhill slide at the moment.

Seems to have expanded its drinking areas since my last visit a few years ago. It's now a spacious but still comfortable pub with low ceilings with zillions of toby jugs hanging off them. Busy and popular with all kinds of customers. Unfortunately the beer range is very boring- just bland national brands in the main- and the pint of Theakstons XB which I ordered was definitely past its best, although just about drinkable, which would explain why the Alma no longer features in the Good Beer Guide.
