Haven't popped in here for a while so I thought I'd give it a whirl. Despite coming under new ownership in the last year or two, at this time of year the improvement works don't look to be progressing too quickly but it is a VAST improvement on before. What we have now is a good old fashioned local pub and when I went in the fire was going, the bar was decked out for xmas, and the xmas CD was playing. Lovely. The barmaid was polite and courteous and the Harveys Old Ale (I'm not a big Harveys man by any means) was absolutely delicious; well kept, topped up on request... Superb pint of beer. A lad on the next table ordered food and it looked great, big portions. But until a group turned up, me and the lad were the only people in there and the question has to be asked, why? Is it TOO 'local' feeling? Have I just become accustomed to identikit country pubs? I had a very enjoyable couple of pints in this pub, one which is like pubs should be, but something is missing and I can't put my finger on what it is. I would certainly recommend it but don't expect to be blown away. DRHartley - 10 Dec 2011 19:28
Had the misfortune to use the Kings Head for my mother's wake. Very poor quality of food and the toilets in the bar was frankly disgusting. Poor value for money, £9 per head and £1.70 for a cup of tea. Beware! Billywhizz1 - 16 Oct 2011 20:42
This Pub catered for my mothers funeral and charged £9 a head for a buffet. The food was awful and extremely overpriced. It is not the best kept pub either. When I phoned to complain about the extortionate pricing I received verbal expletives from the landlord.A great way for someone to behave in the hospitality trade.Steer clear!!! mickpel - 15 Oct 2011 17:58
I enjoyed meals at the Kings Head previously, but it is now much better under the new Management. The various main course puddings were some of the best I have ever tasted and at a reasonsable price. The waiting staff were friendly and attentive and the Lady Chef and kitchen support staff did a great job on the mains and sweets dishes. The range of beers were good too and I enjoyed a nice pint of real ale from a well kept cellar. All in all a memorable Sunday evening out and I will definately be returning - from Essex, so it must be good! Hope you all enjoy it as much as we did. AllanSmith - 23 May 2010 23:24
Called in midweek. Much improved inside and it looks like there is work going on outside to the beer gardden. Friendly, chatty staff and as the Harveys old was still available had a nice pint of 'Mother-in-law'. ropey2 - 6 May 2010 21:22
