| This pub is a good choice for a quick drink, it has good facilities for kids, and a lovely beer garden. Steer well clear of the food though, its terrible. We live locally and go to The Bakers Arms or St Peter's Finger, we thought we would give it a try due to the nice play area (in need of some minor repair) but still very good and ideal for toddlers as all areas are easy to climb on their own. The food is reheated terrible terrible, my meal was like slop and cold, they can't even get New Potatoes right ! Seasoning and taste are missing. Its a shame and if only Gordon Ramsey could save them !! They need to source local food and offer week night meals, this place is on one of the busiest routes to all the South's hotspots but they stop serving food at 6pm and as the huge car park is always almost empty I guess people are put off. The place is now clean and not the seedy smokey place it was a while back, with a new inspired chef it could be great and who would mind paying their prices if the food was decent. Not even a roast with fresh veg on a Sunday ! The Bakers Arms has had a huge refit and updated Menu serving free range food (even on the kids menu) we enjoyed that, but they have no play area. stevesign - 28 Sep 2008 19:10 |
| I and my family have visited The Sandford quite frequently since the new team have been running the place, mainly due to the friendly informal atmosphere and the excellent food prepared by Kris and SP. don't be put off by a previous comment re the length of the menu. All of the deep fried (previously frozen)bilge has gone in favour of a short honest menu of freshly cooked to order local in season produce. No rubbish served to youngsters either, the children's menu is an example to other pubs! lulworthskipper - 23 Jul 2008 12:02 |
| The beer in here is terrible , the Ringwood Best was more like something from a ringpiece, and the pride certainly wouldnt be pride of place anywhere.Food is very average ,and with great places like the Kings arms in Stoborough, the Duke or even the expensive Cock and Bottle ,why would anyone eat here. The very young staff were quite pleasant though! | I was shocked to read the comment posted on 16th June. My family and I have been visiting the area for years and after previous bad experiences, had always given The Sandford a wide birth. During our visit this year, we noticed that it was under new management so thought we'd give it a go. We were delighted with the changes. Firstly it was CLEAN! One of the reasons we never used to visit the pub, was because it was always filthy. Secondly the food was superb, it was so lovely to see freshly cooked food on the menu. The children loved their home made chicken nuggets and free ice-cream! As for the comments about the staff, they were very friendly and offered the children colouring books to keep them busy. My husband enjoyed tucking in to the local ale, infact needless to say I ended up driving home! All in all this pub has undergone a fantastic transformation, a far cry from the dirty, uninviting place we had experienced before. We will definately return next year, and would strongly urge those who have not tried it recently, as you really won't be dissapointed suejacobs - 5 Jul 2007 13:49 |
| As a regular twenty year easter + summer visitor to the pub I was saddened to hear that the previous owners had left sandford along with the old bar manager. I thoght I would give it a try. Unfortunately there are some complaints. Firstly, the food. As nice as it was, it was far too expensive for what you actually got, plus the evening menu was stripped to a tenth of the size of the old menu with very little choice in general. Secondly, the bar staff were the most miserable bunch of kids I've ever laid eyes on (except for the tall slim blond who was the hardest working and most helpful of the lot). They seemed more concerned about when the next cigareette break was. Thirdly, the beer. In my opinion, the selection of stuff on tap has always been thin, but you always got an excellent pint. This time round, the drinks poured were shocking. The real ale had lumps in and no head. Most of the Guinness head was on the outsides of the glass. The lager was flat and tasted very much below stamdard. All comlaints fell on deaf ears. It was always the highlight of our 4 week stay and often came in 4-5 times a week Needles to say, this was my last visit with family. We will not be back again. Jambco - 16 Jun 2007 14:42 |
