| Have to agree with Greywolf. This pub is underrated, and I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the location, which is a bit semi-industrial. Some of the best beer in the area is to be found here - and that's saying something. I'd say the ales are almost up there with the Brown Cow and the Boltmakers. I like it more with every visit. | Sorry John, I disagree. You have to visit this little gem of a place. As boozers go it's distinctly old-fashioned - almost spit and sawdust. But the beer is ALWAYS excellent in presentation and taste, the staff know their ales and are most friendly, and I've heard that the mid-week music scene is very good too. Add to this their "Upstairs/Downstairs" beer festival (always brilliant) and you've a pub in a million. AND NO FOOD!!! GREEEAT!!! Greywolf - 29 Nov 2007 17:16 |
| Friendly small single bar pub serving a number of guest beers, mainly from micros. Note the brewery memorabilia on display - an Adnams mirror and one from the late Trough Brewery in Bradford. The pub regularly offers live music. There is a recently opened downstairs bar. Try and spot the cricketing memorabilia - which, given the pub name, is disappointingly limited. In conclusion, this is not a must visit pub, but worth popping in if passing, especially if you're looking to try a beer you haven't sampled before. JohnBonser - 16 Oct 2007 17:43 |
| Busy little pub. Visited on a Thursday evening, as often with this pub meant that there was a band on, making the venue intimate. Good selection of beers, had the Mooorhouses Pride of Pendle. An even smaller cellar open downstairs with a courtyard, half covered! Younger crowd downstairs. the_amsterdam_man - 16 Jun 2007 21:15 |
| First came across this pub in April 2007 ,and my girlfriend, a local, decribed it as "rough"...they were advertising an evening of finger-picking blues, so we came to have a look. What we found was a basic, but great little pub, serving very good beers, and some lethal cider..with friendly barmen, and a great crowd, well into their music...hmmm, interesting how wrong you can be! Ok it's not built for comfort in the upstairs (street level) bar, but then we'd come for the music, so I really couldn't care about that. Came back again in June for an evening of more "mainstream" blues, and again, had a good evening, with some good music... Both these evenings were Tuesdays, and ok, its never going to be the busiest night of the week, but where I'm from in Essex, you just don't get live music in local pubs during the week, so it was a real pity to see it wasn't better supported - the crowd(!) was no more than 30 people on either night... You've got a great little pub here - come and enjoy it!! Going down tonight - thursday 14th June - to see what's on...both bars open tonight, so hoping for a better supported night, but looking forward to enjoyable music yet again.... scubdad - 14 Jun 2007 18:42 |
