Extract from own notes dated April 2009:
Received a tip-off that The Royal Oak, Ifield now has a bar billiards table. Visited the pub and played two games on it. It is a Tarratt rental and was only installed today.
The landlady (Sharon) states that she loves the game and the table is 'her baby' so even if it takes a while to catch on there the table will be retained at all costs.
It appears to be a good slate and cloth, but with the usual cushions that kick down, and most unfortunately an enormous gap in each corner where a ball firstly gets trapped and then finally disappears, swallowed up by the table never to be seen again ! There is no table lighting at present, either.
Sharon is well aware of the shortcomings and is going to get Tarratts back to sort it out.
It could be a decent venue for bar billiards, there is sufficient space in the bar where the table is situated. But Monday night being darts night is to be avoided.

A flight from Gatwick again and so time for another visit to the Royal Oak. Still a very nice pub, 3 beers on tap and the London Pride which we had was fine, but just a bit too cold for my liking.
The food was good, basic pub food, very reasonably priced. Happy to find 6 years on from our last visit that it's still a pub which is well worth visiting.

The Royal Oak is a traditional friendly pub in Ifield Green village.
Excellent pub food and I believe their meat is locally sourced from Handcross butchers. Wednesday night is Curry and pint night for 7.00!! homemade bhajis, popadoms and onion and cucumber salad, must be best value around.
Quiz night with Denis and Linda on Sundays always fun, relaxed and open to all. It's also nice to go into a pub that still has a seperate public bar for darts and sky sports, the locals are knowledgeable and good humoured and are allways friendly to new visitors. Good selection of real ales and the Sharpes Doombar is going down a treat at the moment.
Ignore some of the old reviews, this pub is well worth a visit.

Good pub, friendly, basic food at sensible prices.
Real ales. Current guest ale is Adnams (March 2008)

This is one of my local pubs and I have to say that it is probably one of the worst in West Sussex. The staff are horrible and the place always seems to look untidy. Was really shocked to see the manager prepare a Birthday party buffet with smart price Asda food!!!
