Strange pub, with a fiercely fenced-off outside seating area at the front and almost nowhere to sit inside. Repainted in a rather gothic near-black during the last refurbishment, with the 'Hell' Pizza signage almost more prominent than the pub's name. Absolutely no ale at all, not even John Smiths Extra Dull or something bottled in the fridge. A very quick pint of 1664 (£3.40) and I was off. rpadam - 12 Aug 2010 23:01
Pizzas were great and a nice price on a 2-for-1 night, making up for the very pricey lager (not a real beer in sight). tortugasl - 29 Apr 2008 22:04
This pub used to be brilliant. It definitely isn’t a place you can spend a lot of time in anymore, more of a passing through, quick pint or bite to eat place. The new referb is meant to make the place match up to its other gastro pub counterparts e.g. the eagle, the mulberry etc however it has failed. after closing for 2 weeks the re-opening only revealed that whoever hung the wall paper must have been blind. The addition of the chip fryer has given the pub the aroma of a cheap greasy spoon. I just couldn’t wait to leave. The manager is unremorseful whenever anything goes wrong or is criticised, which is a shame as a more friendly customer service would be better appreciated. AND after all, when you are only trying to help along your local hang out, you would expect a little more enthusiasm. I have boycotted this place and will ALWAYS make the extra journey to go anywhere but the askew if only not to have to look at the awful wall paper that is all……askew. Bags - 7 Apr 2008 11:52
Not a bad place - bright, clean. Good pizzas. Friendly Staff. mauteek - 9 Nov 2007 14:31
On the plus side the wine list is extensive and good quality (according to the missus), the stone-baked pizzas are tasty (and good value on a 2-for-1 night) and it's quite relaxed in here. On the minus, the draught selection is limited (Carling, Wifebeater, Kirin & Guinness) and they don't seem to have Sky sports. Good place in comparison to anything else local. random_ranger - 14 May 2007 16:28
