I know it was Saturday of the Harbour festival but there were only 3 in on our visit. We sat outside with Skipton brewery ale,and something obscure for Kernow, both of which were moderate. There were no mongrels marauding on this visit. The sarcastic(in my opinion) barman decided to play his loud techno music at 5pm thus eradicating his few punters, and deterring us from having another. Like has been said before definitely not the cream of the normally good Dawkins crop. an_ecunemical_matter - 5 Aug 2008 20:35
A good stop for quality ale, but didn't really carry the charm or ambience of places like the Hillgrove PS - a minor gripe. Still worth seeking out though and I will be back. Quinno - 6 Jun 2008 20:19
I didn't challenge my low pint served by a barman who seemed preoccupied by the arrival of his relief because I thought that it might have been a lined glass(it wasn't). London Pride,2 from St Austell and Cheddar Best(very good) were the range. Cesspit toilets. Dogs wandering all over the gaff. Maybe a bit over-rated by some and not nearly as good as the Hillgrove. an_ecunemical_matter - 12 Mar 2008 20:40
Really liked this pub.A good old local with good beer and a really nice dog called Maurice and another one called Nelson that's only nice if you have crisps. baxterfish - 13 Dec 2007 16:42
Visited here on 27 October as it now features in the Good Beer Guide, and is part of the burgeoning but still select group of Dawkins taverns, which had hitherto always been reliable sources of excellent cask ale, sensitive refurbishment and above all, good local pubs. By and large, the formula was clearly in place at the Miners: the ale was well-kept, service good, and although the Dawkins brand was more evident on close inspection of the pub's accoutrements, it remained subtle enough to avoid excess (clever 1930s spoof posters featuring the Dawkins name etc). Notwithstanding this, I felt it lacked a certain something. For a start, none of the ales on were particularly local, which was a shame (St Austell was the closest!), but that was a minor issue. I think it was just a little too large to engender any sort of atmosphere, unless the place was packed, which at 4PM it certainly was not. This is a personal view, but this one was too much of a barrack room for me; not enough nooks 'n' crannies. Still, these are minor gripes and overall this looks to be another success story for the good Mr D and Co. TWG - 30 Oct 2007 11:43
