It's the sort of place that will serve you a pint at 10:55 then pester you to leave at 11:02. The bar staff are terrible. There were at least 6 of them last night but they seem to hate serving drinks. 4 or 5 of them spent the whole night wandering round in a desperate search for empties to collect whilst the lone bar lady gazed into the middle distance probably wishing she was still on her gap year. This would be a great pub under new management. The building is great and the food isn't too bad but please sort out the bar. ricdabush - 6 May 2011 09:31
Dreadful pub-completelty soul-less. I don't think I've ever come across more disinterested staff. huntforbeer - 13 Jan 2011 12:36
The sports bar upstairs is a great improvement, and in general, the revamp has made the pub look loads better. However, the bar staff are rather slow (god knows how they will cope on boat race day when the place is really busy) and what is that horrible smell of rotting eggs that stinks out the main bar? We've been there several times recently & have had to sit outside as the stench is so nasty - and no one seems to be able to do anything about it. Aby - 1 Mar 2010 14:11
If you are interested in pub Victoriana, you must see the gents upstairs next to the refurbished 'sports bar' - sensational and still unchanged. alaric - 19 Feb 2010 21:47
True a great location and have spent many an evening taking in the river over a cold beer or a glass of red...BUT since the 'lip service' revamp twinned with the hike in prices and yes the quite unfriendly and dreadfully slow staff...this once top pub is now little more than an also run in the local pub pecking order... upyourpub - 8 Dec 2009 13:22
