I have just spent a Saturday night at the William IV - they had a sound system called Toxic and they were great, playing all kinds of sounds including reggae which was excellent. They have a MC who really got the crowd going and a lady who spun the tunes! There was a friendly atmosphere and free food was given out to the crowd. It also lasted to 1am! daisyg94 - 1 Feb 2009 15:39
You can see today that this pub has had a chequered past and hasn't been mordernised much. The carpet and wall covering looks 30 years old but it's warm and the staff are friendly enough. I've spent a few Saturday afternoons in here during November & December 2008 with some friends and although the interior is dated and I've never seen more than 20 people in there the service and food is excellent. It has a huge projector screen in a semi-closed off area for major sports events and a few other plasma's dotted around with the sound off. The pool table is never busy-which is a bonus. They advertise different events like quizzes and karaoke but I've not sampled them yet. clueless - 9 Jan 2009 13:57
This used to be my local about 10 years ago but now they can't seem to do anything to turn this pub around. The staff seem friendly enough, the lager is fine and they always have something going on, be it a quiz or a karaoke or something. However, they could do with cleaning the toilets properly, they really stink. The crowd skews older, there wasn't a hint of trouble but the pub just feels... grubby. crazyk - 17 Nov 2008 19:32
This pub was such a great pub .. love to just pop in there for no reason but the 2 manageresses that was there was more busy drinking and snorting coke then running the pub and staff was fed up doing there work and not getting paid for it, company took this pub back and good for them the new people is doing brillant cleaned the pub up and slowly the customers is coming back , which iam sure the elma lodge is "happy" about, the fridges is full which is nice to see again, just a shame a window is broken in the front of the pub and after 3 weeks nothing have been done to it yet which let all the hard work they have been putting in down.... go have a look at this pub now things is changing for sure .... there is hope anonymous - 22 Nov 2007 20:56
A mate and I were the first Aussie Backpackers to work in this pub back in 1988. I've got some great memories of the place and last visited in 1995. I hope the revues are wrong because it was a great pub the last time I was in the U.K. and I hope it will be the next time I get to visit for a pint. Belly66 - 12 Apr 2007 12:25
