Unlike nearly everyone other reviewer, I thought this was a very nice place (and I'm no great fan of Wetherspoons, either). Visited late on a Saturday afternoon, the family area was very busy, only two people serving but we still got served quickly and pleasantly. The Jail Ale was as good as I've had anywhere else, too. Maybe it depends on the time of day when you go there, but I'd definitely visit again. Trequites - 30 Aug 2008 22:48
Possibly the worst pub in the Wetherspoon's empire. Inside, almost every bit of upholstery was torn, and you needed a torch to find your way around the side bar area(probably so you wouldn't notice the upholstery....). Outside equally tatty, and it was difficult to quote a table number for food, since the numbers were written in felt-tip and faded. Beer was tolerable, but the range limited and uninspiring. Staff were pleasant enough, but, as in most JDW pubs, there weren't enough of them. All in all, a bit of a bummer. JCLOTH - 6 Aug 2008 12:34
This is a typical Wetherspoons pub...ie poorly kept beer, unhelpful staff, bad food. If you like Wetherspoons, you'll love it!! UlricVonBek - 18 Apr 2007 22:14
Classic Wetherspoons. The ale is awful and it's impossible to get served at any time. Went in early on a Sunday afternoon - it wasn't particularly busy, there were four staff on the go and it still took 12 minutes before I could get a drink. gravedigga - 5 Feb 2007 12:38
Not as bad as the reviews make out. Had a great pint of Exmoor Gold and the Spitfire was ok.You wouldn't want to spend a whole session there, but ok for a couple. Staff friendly too. MikeClarke - 18 Aug 2006 20:49
