popped in here recently and had an enjoyable pint. looked good inside. friends used to drink here way back in 96 while we were at northbrook college, the place was definitely a student sort of pub in those days.seems to have smartened up now and has more of a mixture of people with a few more families. had a pleasant time in there.

I have recently visited this pub to find an amazing change. Not only have the present licencees, Bill and Armando done a fantastic job of refurbishing the whole pub to a high standard, the clientelle has changed much for the better. This now appears to be very much a locals pub, with families welcome during the day time. They have created a real sense of comunity, several pool teams, darts ect ( who seem to win a lot of trophies). Even the games room is very nicely decorated and the whole pub looks new! There is leather seating all around, marble bar top ( huge serving area)A a smoker , I really apprecited the large (covered) outdoor smoking area too - I didn't feel pushed out into the cold as a 'dirty smoker' It's hard to believe this is the same pub it was. A truly amazing transformation.

As owner of The Southdown, i feel the rating is a tad harsh, we have been here for nearly 2 years now and have gone to great efforts to reform the pub into a quality local, this is now a family friendly house, with premium leather furnishings and newly
decorated, we have a covered smoking area (lit and heated) a seperate pool room a seperate darts room and a friendly welcoming ambience. we operate a strictly
"under 18 with parents only policy"

feel free to come and have a look round.
i wont rate the pub i shall leave that to you.

Interesting, this place generally gets a bad press from many corners but having passed the pub countless times and not been in, one thing that always catches my eye.....it's immaculately clean and tidy looking and by that I mean it's hard to see the glass in the windows and the paintwork has been wiped down !! I will visit soon so no rating left yet.

Not really surprised about the low rating, this is not a very nice place. It is a busy , well, I want to call it an estate pub but, errrrr.
It's not in a bad part of town but it does seem to attract some of the local trash, avoid unless your a local in which case you may enjoy.
