This pub is very nice, but nothing more. It is clearly more orientated towards food, although the spitfire was kept very well. Unfortunately, it is also let down by the fact that the simply superb Royal Oak is across the road, which we visited prior to the Bull. Albeit, this is a very nice pub and worth a visit if passing through Newick

I reviewed this pub very honestly almost 2 years ago and I was disappointed by the reviews that followed, suggesting that I was the landlord. I still go to the pub - eat and drink there and still have the same warm welcome from all the staff. I couldn't agree more with the comments from HanB - you only have to see the reviews on Tripadvisor to see that some of these reviews are of quite a personal nature, which can be damaging.

A lovely village pub which has been greatly improved by the current management. Great food combined with friendly atmosphere and welcoming staff. I'm quite shocked by some of the previous comments with regard to the Landlord. I would encourage anyone reading through to disregard them and form their own opinion after a visit to The Bull. In my experience, he provides excellent service to all customers not just 'those it seems who live in very big houses & drive very expensive cars' (?) I have neither but whether I've been with friends or family, we have always felt very welcome and had really good service. If arrogant means 'ambitious and very hardworking' then yes he is! That's what makes it the great pub that it's become!

There seems to be a number of people who have found the management here to be arrogant towards anyone other than there cronies. Having been in for a pint or two, I can see why people feel that way. I didn't feel welcome.

I used to go to the 272 restaurant when it was run by the same people and they were fine there.

The Bull used to be a free house so it is a shame it is now a Shepherd Neame pub with the restrictions that implies. That said, I have tried most of the ales on offer and while not my favourite, they aren't bad with Late Red being the best. The beer is kept quite well here although it is expensive.

i've lived in Newick for years & the Bull has always been regular destination for my family & I. I have been for food a few times since the new management took over & the food has always been very good. The manager will give an excellent service to certain locals (those it seems who live in very big houses & drive very expensive cars) HOWEVER if your just a normal like me then he can't even bring himself to look you in the eye! Arrogant isn't the word! the rest of the staff aren't so bad. Went for food (bar food not restaurant) & was extremely disappointed. From frozen, no flavour, stodgy, oily- the kind of food that I would feel ripped off if i bought from a van by the side of the road for half the price! The waitress denied the food was bad - although she would because, as she mentioned, her husband is the head chef. said that as I had already paid upfront rather than putting it on a tab I could not have my money back. Cheers! I was starving - offered a dessert but i needed FOOD! next time I will order a burger - at the Oak!!
