Birthplace of the legendary "Roofdogs", a blue plaque is rumoured to be going up soon. Another point in its favour: got rid of Fosters.

I have just had the misfortune to visit the Jolly Crofters at Horwich. It's a pub I have been to in the past and never had a bad meal. How things have changed.

We arrived at 1.50pm today (10/10) and ordered 2 starters at 13.56pm, according to the slip. The starter arrived at 2.25pm and was of very poor quality and small portions. This wasn't loooking good.

At 2.51pm the waitress arrived at our table, not with any food, but an apology, the cheese & onion pie I ordered as one main course nearly an hour ago had now sold out!

She told me she had only started her shift at 2pm so didn't really know what was going on, however the more mature lady who took the order stayed well away.

I decided enough was enough was enough and left the restaurant paying for the drinks I had purchased.

This was not the only problem, I witnessed three other people complaining about the food and service. One couple watched a table of three arrive, get fed and leave before they had even received their food.

This used to be a pub reknowned for good food and service. What a shame it's ended up like this.

Stay well away.

It's beautiful on the outside, and really warm and comfortable looking on the inside, like a traditional country pub. Sadly, the food was pricy and really quite poor :(

Went to the 'Crofters on saturday 17 April, it was very quiet , this should have told us something, one time you could hardly get a seat, I got the drinks and viewed the menu I fancied trad' chips and fish but it was crossed off, so I ordered the lamb shank with mash , my wife had vegi lasagne , whilst waiting for our food to arrive we overheard someone say that the lamb was tough , though the beer was delish' I agreed with the other customer about the lamb, it was tough and I think it died of starvation with amount of meat on the bone , my wife couln't believe the lack of filling in her lasagne,.. Be a long time before I go there again !!!

With regards to the last review, the Blundell is now owned by a similar group to the Crofters, so I bet you dont get much better service up there. We visit either one of these pubs over the weekend for a quiet drink, and they are typical of the british pub today, rubbish, however saying that I would say that the Blundell has a bigger staff turnaround and to be honest I have never had anybody n the crofters serve me in track suit bottoms!
