Brian, the new landlord, has skilfully revived this lovely little pub as a hub of the local community without damaging its traditional character. The decor seems little changed since the 1950's, and the menu extends to a pickled egg in a bag of crisps. But if you want a welcoming, unpretentious place for conversation, pub games, good beer (Bass plus a guest) and a sense of community, look no further. A real public house, and an unspoiled gem. It was Sunday afternoon when I paid this place a visit - so perhaps not representitive of it's normal atmosphere. It seemed very much a locals boozer, nothing fancy about it. That said it seemed friendly enough. Fair sized beer garden. I had Bass (the only beer) which was fine. I probably wouldn't give it a go on a Saturday night, but fine for a midday drink. It might do really cheap beer but that attracts all the youngsters and loads of trouble - more than any other pub I've been in. One to avoid if you like to enjoy your drink... pub_goer_frome - 12 Mar 2008 20:47 |
