user reviews of the Ship Inn, Lowestoft

Recently renovated. Open plan but 3 areas. Bar to left, lounge to right and "Galley" restaurant to rear. Staff friendly and helpful. On my visit there were 4 beers available. Mostly unusual ones. Served at room temperature so maybe not popular with those who like their ale chilled. Bar and lounge both very pleasant and bright with wooden floors. Restaurant tables spread out almost to the point of sparse but good thing if you don't like being too snug! Food not particular cheap given the location - Sunday lunch £9.50, desserts £4.50. However, it is very nicely presented and tastes great too. Desserts where very good also. Chef said hello as he passed through and asked if the food was OK. Also they are child friendly. I would say the only niggles we had is they wouldn't serve a glass of milk and we had problems paying by card because of a faulty terminal. And rather than trying to sort it out or using a back up system we had to pay cash. No idea what would have happened if we hadn't the cash!! Highly recommended though.

This a great find in a surprising location. Very friendly and professional staff and really nice food, though you might have to wait as it is real food, freshly prepared. The Ship offers beers from the Oulton Brewery, a nice change from Adnams if you like real ale. Much better food and service than other pubs in the area. Highly recommended. User friendly for those with children as well.

the food and service are so superior to most pubhs in the area. the wine menu is extensive and the pub also offers an extensive around the world bottled beer menu. the pub is really worth a visit.

A wonderfully clean and well decorated pub and restraunt. The pub offers a vaste selection of wines and real ales and an extensive food menu. The meals are excellent as are the friendly and effcient staff. I highly recommend a visit.
