must have been lucky compared to others. 5 of us (incl. kids) went there on the hunt for dinner. Interior looked a bit shabby but staff was welcoming and food was good (2x moules, risotto, rock salmon, seafood pasta). Pint (Tribute) was OK as well. Had a friendly chat with the landlady afterwards. Will probably go again..

Awful! Chilled real ale, one of the staff over friendly to the point where it was creepy, the other looked like we were there to spoil his day. Wouldn't let us have a bowl of chips with our round of drinks for five. Shabby tired decor. Never again.

Visited Beer on Sunday lunchtime after driving the coast road home to Devon from Dorset. It was a nice day so lets go for lunch I thought and decided to try the Barrel O beer. Proclaiming on a board outside to be one of the best food pubs in Devon and also advertising Moules Frites ( a personal favourite), I thought we were on to a winner. Stepping inside I was a bit surprised to find ourselves as the only punters, still it was only 12.20 so I was sure more would turn up. I opted for the afore mentioned Moules and Mrs Gaffer went for Pork steak in Cider sauce to be washed down with a pint of Otter and a soft drink for her. When the food arrived we were still the only punters and judging by what was put in front of us I could see why. A chewy pork chop swimming in a watery sauce with a couple of new spuds and a bit of veg and a load of closed mussels and overcooked chips. The landlord was a rather brusque and unwelcoming sort so I decided to put this one down to experience, skip dessert and vow that next time I'm in Beer we will try one of the other pubs. To cap things off it was horribly overpriced for what you got when I could have gone in the next pub up the street for an 8.50 carvery. D'oh!!
