I can see a block of flats here in the not too distant future.

Sadly, nobody seems to have taken the lease on this place and done something with it yet. Even more sadly, this is my local - though I have no intention of ever setting foot in it. The famous description "a wretched hive of scum and villainy" flatters this place and from what I've seen of the clientele, I wouldn't want to get any closer than I do now, as I drive past in my car. Avoid like the plague.

Ok, this pub is a zoo on the wrong day, but, it has leased it's kitchen out to some indian caterers and it now does the best madras i have found in all of surrey, you have to venture up north to bet a better one, and they deliver.

In keeping with the pubs "character", it still maintains the concept of a "saloon" and "Public" bar, the troglodytes tend to stick to the public bar, so you can have a quiet drink there, and then get delivered home with your curry.

Tne entertainment largely revolves around the activities spoken of by a previous poster, (picking and having fights), but participation is not mandatory (its more of a sport in guildford), and as a spectacle, it is often hilarious. I give the place an 8 mainly for the curry, but also because i actually like places that go quiet when a stranger walks in, and is a challenge to be accepted in, once accepted into such a place, you can always go back, note the poster who felt threatened, did not actually get threatened (he got tested), if he would made the animal laugh, he would have been "in" this is a typical english pub as far as i'm concerned.

For similar atmospheres, have a pint in the weavers or the astolat, same thing, but you wont get such a good curry. to witness gullfords main sport, walk around the town center around midnight on a weekend.

I was in the area and felt like a drink. The pub did not look good from the outside but all i wanted was a drink. Is that too much to ask? Apparantly. The barmaid came up and just looked at me without saying anything. I asked for the drink adding the word please at the end. I think this was out of character for the place. When I asked for some crisps aw well this nutter who had been about 5 feet away said "what?". I said I was speaking to the barmaid. He then said "do I know you?" I think this is known as trying to start a fight. Really brave with about 3 of them who seemed to condone his action as did a group of 6 up the other end. Many of the had tatoos. real spit and sawdust type of place, full of low lifes.
