| Pleasant enough and more of a real pub than the others. Closest pub to the station. I had a pint of Kronenbourg here rather than ale as I saw no one else on the ales - probably should have had a try but the two GBG entries for MM were poor so I didn't risk an ale here. | Always make a point of going in here on my (frequent) trips to Melton; as others have said, you couldn't find a more welcoming, cosy pub; Laura & Mick have really made something of the place; lovely atmosphere (warm real fire in winter) and well kept ales plus Laura's selection of fine single malts. dhderby - 24 Apr 2012 21:29 |
| pint number #69 of my week off and prob the best pint of the week, the caledonian oatmeal stout was lush lush like the barmaid who must have had a great wrist action taking into account the spangly pump clips 8/10 fat_beer_badger - 19 Feb 2011 15:52 |
| We phoned ahead to check whether we could eat our locally purchased pie here & the guv said no prob, although when we arrived he did admit to having thought we were on a wind-up! Small pub, nicely furnished with surround settles at the front, plasma & dartboard to the rear. Look out for the bank of four interesting handpumps (decorative) opposite the bar – unfortunately the bar itself offered only IPA, Abbot & Bombardier, but the latter was in fine fettle. And the Thompson pies were splendid with local pickles & mustard. trainman - 5 May 2008 11:20 |
| If you want a relaxing and comftable place to have a drink then I highly recommend this cozy intimate little pub. Boasting three open fires you can leave your coat by the door and escape the cold into a safe relaxing atmosphere. The boat is as close to the town center as a pub can be just cross the road and your on the train. It is unique to the town as it has all the charm and community ambience of a typical country pub. A real gem of a pub with ales to please any connoisseur of drinkers. Highly recommended!!! anonymous - 14 Dec 2006 23:41 |
