Have been using this establishment again for the past 2 weeks, and as a restranteur of some 30 yrs experience, all i can say is what a pleasure it is to see such a well run, clean, fresh friendly public house. The staff are well trained, friendly, on the ball, and presentable. The Land lady and her partner who is the chef have in 6 weeks turned this non entity into a really first class, place to frequent. There is a good selection of real ales, lagers and very good wines at sensible prices. The food is excellent, not Michelin star but from experience the best food pub in the area. I would like to say i have no interest in this business but am commenting as an experienced outsider who travels around the south visiting local hostelries and i feel that a good place is worthy of fair comments. Do give it a try.

Visited in late May '09 since we had heard the food was good. Under the same ownership as the Hurdles at Meonstoke. The place has benefitted from a tidy up and on a mid-week evening was tolerably busy. The food was pretty much as you expect from foody pubs today, with the omnipresent Bell Pork. My complaint is that it's expensive - Restaurant prices for pub food - almost £70 quid for two with a bottle of overpriced Shiraz. Not a pub that will become a regular haunt of mine.

Under new management, reopened at Christmas. Whilst closed there was a burglary with some kitchen & dining area items stolen so no food at present

New owners [2 Marks + a Wayne] already run a few pubs, new manager goes in next week, as does new chef, and she has been with the new team for over a year so obviously knows her stuff

They have also prised a few bob out of Enterprise Inns to fit new windows & general refurb

All in all things are looking up, but only time will tell

this pub is sadly closed at present. lets hope it reopens soon with a cheery new landlord and a good chef. i for one would love to see this place busy again. but whatever any negative comments posted prior to this are now nil and viod. lets just see what the future brings.
