HAS NOW CLOSED AND REOPENED AS PRINCESS ALICE mooose - 1 May 2007 11:16
I have to disagree with OzAngel, having gone to the City Darts for years on and off I have to say its taken a nose dive. Sure it looks much better, its cleaner and thank the gods they've taken the DJ booth out. But the landlord is a right tosser who is only there to look good infront of his friends. He treated myself and myfriends with utter disrespect to the point where we left. Its a shame, because its otherwise a nice pub, used to have lunch there quite often and it was great for wathing football. jeuk - 22 Feb 2007 14:26
From the first look at this site it is clear that the editor’s don’t have much idea about history or pubs. To start with this photo is years out of date as the pub has changed back to its original name of “The Princess Alice” named after one of the worst British maritime disasters of all time. In 1878 while heading across the river, towards the North Woolwich Pier, the Princess Alice was struck by another ship and nearly cut in half. She sank in less than five minutes, with the loss of approximately 640 lives. I recently went to the Princess Alice for lunch and found that the pub is currently under new management and has changed dramatically. It has had a spring clean and is very tidy. It is no longer a ‘blokey’ pub but is frequented by both men and women seems to be very popular. There is a great menu selection which includes favourites such as pie and mash which is very nice indeed. They offer a selection of fine wines and a range of spirits and beers. The pub is moving with the times and even has its own website (www.theprincessalice.co.uk). When I went in during the evening the place was also really busy. It seems there is a lot to offer here including young and lively punters and bar staff. The pub had a warm and friendly atmosphere and I had a good night. OzAngel - 19 Jan 2007 15:27
