YAL - yet another landlord - again. This has become a pub in search of direction. Will not bother again until next year. Pleasant enough pint though.

An attractive 16th Century coaching inn with low beamed ceilings and plenty of old local prints on the walls. Sells local McMullen ales. Bit of a strange atmosphere, almost library like, with four locals sitting at the bar but not saying a word to each other except to say goodbye when one of them left. One claim to fame is that it was visited by poet John Keats and more recently it was used in the filming of TV series Auf Wiedersehen Pet.

Walked the Nickey Line recently from Harpenden and stumbled across this wonderful pub.

Friendly staff, lovely old style feel to the place, and a wonderful carvery with massive portions for about £9.

Well worth a visit.

They advertise the Sunday carvery as finishing up at 3pm, but they were packing up at just after 2, when we were there...
