Closed for good for turning into a gun shop. Shame really.

I used to enjoy drinking in this pub, good range of real ales and well kept too. I've been in since the fire on several occasions & hated it on every occasion. You can't get to the bar to be served for men stood in front of it just gauping at one of the TVs. The language policy doesn't seem to apply any more as there was effing & jeffing by the clientelle. Janet, the landlady wasn't in at the time though. It is not possible to sit & have a quiet pint anymore as there is nowhere inside or outside the pub to sit away from one of the six, yes SIX televisions. I appreciate people want to come & have a pint & watch the match with their mates, but do the TVs have to be everywhere? The pub wants to attract varied visitors, why else would there be comfy sofas & fresh flowers everywhere. The mix is just wrong now.

"Full of rugby players who block the bar"? I'm sorry, this is Wigan and this is a rugby league pub. I once came back from Wembley after a Challenge Cup Final, the coach driver drove non-stop to the Dog and Partridge, as we walked in we were met with a walm welcome, and a video tape of the match we had just seen. By half time, the team had arrived and the Challenge Cup sat on the bar pride of place. Yes this pub has a few big TV screens but it is a sports bar. The beer has sung every time I have been in there, there is always an interesting selection and I have never felt anything but welcomed and valued. All this and I haven't handled a rugby ball in anger for over thirty five years. This is a smashing pub.

Smallish pub with nice outside area, full of rugby players who block the bar. Tetley Cask Bitter and four unusual guest real ales. Tried them all and none anything like decent, would be better concentrating on a couple and keeping them properly rather than such a wide range.
