This has always been a very foody pub! but seems to be more like a proper pub these days. staff are very efficient, great beer garden, seperate dinning type area if needed, generally worth a pint, but smells a bit odd!

More restaurant than pub, yet another one ripe for refurbishing into the traditional village pub it once was. Just getting rid of the sofas would help.

Anyway the beer, Harveys Best, was in excellent condition today and landlord perfectly pleasant.

All who like run of the mill gastropubs will be content here.

I have to say this place is growing on me, yes the landlord can be a bit of a grumpy old hector (I think that just adds charactor!!) but get past that and this place is not bad at all.
Great range of beers at good prices too, and the food is excellent, has the feel of a good local pub, friendly locals and staff, just like another un-named local pub used to be, Oh alright, the Inn on the Pond.

Dropped in with a group of about 15 or so after a cross-country race nearby. The food is absolutely excellent and dished out in large servings - I had lamb chops. The beer is well kept. My only criticism is that the locals and landlord were a little stand-offish with us in the beginning. That doesn't matter, we will return.

If you want a pub with a really unfriendly landlord, then this is the pub for you.
He never gives eye contact, never says good evening, how are you or gives a smile.
In fact, he never speaks at all, just holds out his hand for the money after you have ordered your drinks.
Oh, I lie, he actually spoke one Sunday evening about 6.50 when , after being there an hour or so, we asked for more drinks. "You have just got time for one more before I close the pub". When we mentioned that the pub timetable stated that it closed at 8.00 p.m. on a Sunday he said "well, we had a busy lunchtime so we are closing at 7.0 p.m. today". With that he started to turn off the lights and continue with clearing up. He then added that he would only keep it open for his regulars (of which there weren't any of them around) Surprise, surprise.
You will be amazed to hear that he didn't say goodnight and thank you when we left - For good.
