user reviews of the Castle of Comfort, Medstead

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A fantastic pub. Spacious inside without losing a sense of 'cosiness'. Good standard of beer with a few regulars and one changing. Nice bar staff - the landlady has been present on each visit and has been very friendly. Some of her own works of art are on display in the pub - as well as a number of different paintings/photographs of the pub throughout the years. Managed to ruin a jumper leaning on some flowers (lillies?) but that's just my own idiocy! Love coming in here to read the local newspaper, and enjoy seeing a complete cross section of the community going through the place. My 'local' is technically the Windmill in Four Marks, but it's worth the trip to Medstead to go to a real pub. Only improvement would be to replace some of the creaky chairs - but that's just part of the charm, right? Highly recommended. CJG says it best with 'Comfortable, hospitable, reliable'.

A superb pub. Excellent, friendly service and friendly locals when I visited. Pint of Courage Director's was best had ever tasted!

A good village local pub. The locals made me feel most welcome when I went there for the jazz BBQ evening.
A pint of Black Sheep was in fine form. They keep their cellar well.

Comfortable, hospitable, reliable. An excellent community-focused country pub. And they also serve a perfect pint of the hard to find in mid Hants Hooky Bitter.

Proper drinking pub. You won't be fighting your way past eaters in here, they don't serve food. Beer a bit pricey, but hey ho. The locals will turn and stare as you walk through the door but that's part of the atmosphere, isn't it?
