This is a great pub.

The 'old school' hosting by the landlord and landlady is a refreshing change to the bland 'do you want fries with that' welcome of more modern and contrived hostelries.

Proper pub hours (not all day opening), bar billiards, good food and superb beer all results in a visit to a real pub.

Landlord can be seen as being eccentric but see the bigger picture. What other pub has a 'grumpy hour'?

Love this pub. It is where I would liove to do more drinking.

I can understand the 1st comment about the unfriendly welcome as I thought this was the case when I first visited this pub. After a few more visits I must say this isn't the case at all and the staff are very friendly. There is a generally feeling in the village that this is a bit of a "local" pub but if you can get over that they have some very well priced and tasty food available. I would recommend a visit here even though Elgoods aren't my favourite beers.

Can't understand the review saying that there is a consistently un-friendly welcome, since arriving in the village this has NEVER been the case. Warm and friendly are the best words I can use to rate the greeting offered by the Landlord,Landlady and staff all alike. The Ales are excellent and the food is by far the best around

Should be a classic - well-kept beer (Elgoods + guest) and local cider, decent balti nights, good garden, but let down by consistently unfriendly welcome
