Very much a local pub for local people only. I visited whilst on holiday in the area because I'd been told it was the best pub in this part of town. The pub was busy on a Friday evening but there were 3 staff serving. I stood at the bar attempting to catch the eye of one of the staff whilst brandishing my ten pound note and gazing longingly at the Taylors Landlord handpump. Unfortunately I seemed to have become invisible, and when not actually serving the staff were chatting and chortling with their friends, remaining determinedly unaware of my existence. Not sure whether the staff were just a bit clueless or whether they were just determined not to serve an unfamilar face- I suspect the latter, as people either side of me were being served. First experience of this kind in 25 years of pubgoing, and in a way I suppose it's reassuring that some pubs can still afford to turn away custom in this way. I went elsewhere- and if you're a visitor to the town you should do the same. edchambers - 1 Nov 2008 22:03

Great pub a bit steep on the prices but a scarborough gem. BAZNPAT - 8 Apr 2008 00:37
Cracking- a proper pub. Yes its full of locals, but always made welcome. I went in this weekend with a bunch of southerners from Bournemouth (showing them the true north) and introduced them to Timothy Taylors- A1, and Ginger Whinger. All sad when we had to leave. Full of real people not like the richard heads you get at The Square & Compass in Worth Matravers. beerbob66 - 6 Nov 2007 16:44
