Although there are other pubs in the village we always end up here, so I suppose this is my local. It's an Ember Inn, so you know that there'll be no huge surprises. Having said that, this is a large, clean, very friendly, consistent place to eat and drink. And the real ales are varied and well kept, with tasters freely available. murgy24 - 17 Jun 2008 19:37
I have used this pub between 2 and 3 times a week for the last 2 months at lunchtimes. There is a crowd of us girls. The service and attention by the bar staff is second to none - they always acknowledge when any customer approaches the bar to be served (a very nice touch). The food is extremely good and my husband - who will only drink real ale - rates the quality and variety of ales on sale very highly. The Red Lion competes very well with other notable hostelries in the area (Swettenham Arms, The Black Swan at Lower Withington,The Crown at Goostry). The Nearby George and Dragon is dreadful by comparison. MarionatSandbach - 8 Apr 2007 10:30
Agree about the food being poor, but it isn't that bad. It's a chain pub (Ember Inns) so you should know what to expect rogang - 31 Oct 2005 10:08
Used to be a good pub, recently gone down hill. Cask beers aren't varied as they used to be, and food is the pits. Nearby George & Dragon serves better ale. anonymous - 10 Oct 2005 14:20
