user reviews of the Black Horse, Dry Drayton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A delightful exterior and the fact that this pub had reopened after an extended period of closure tempted us to go for a drink on a Saturday evening. From the start it proved to be a let-down. A pint of Adnams bitter and a SMALL glass of white wine coming to £7.85 led me to query whether I had been over-charged, or perhaps mistakenly charged for a large glass of wine. Although I had quietly asked the guy who had served me, two members of staff got involved and embarrassed me in front of other customers.
As there were no available seats in the bar area and were quite tired, I asked a member of staff if we could sit at a small table roughly set for food and were told that we could not, yet two much younger people who appeared to be locals sat there with pints and no food from shortly afterwards until we left.
We found the Black Horse unwelcoming and overpriced, and would recommend those other than locals to give it a wide berth.

I was on a run using trails from Bar Hill to the Cavendish Labs and had hoped to stop at the Black Horse for a 1/3-of-the-way pint. Unfortunately, it is seeking a new tenant. Looks like a great location, and the right publican should be able to make a go (next nearest are the prefabricated Fox in Bar Hill and the snooty gastro monstrosity Three Horseshoes in Maddingley).
