| Excellent refurb job. The pub now looks and feels like a friendly place, as opposed to Racist Pete's personal fiefdom. The beer is well-kept, and for the time being at least, the bogs appear to be working. I'll continue to wear leather shoes in there just in case, though. Well done. A huge improvement. | Just a quick update. I saw the last poster mention that the pub is in need of a refurb. Well, lo and behold, the Victory was closed for a week and re-opened all refurbed up at the start of December 2011. Not a complete overhaul, but new carpeting, upholstery and some new drinks (mmmm San Miguel!). Didn't get to sample the toilets, but surely they will have addressed this also. Looks nicer, San Miguel was splendid and the place was packed on a Saturday late afternoon. Menu still the same as previous, so nothing special. Looks better and smells a heck of a lot nicer! glenn9ball - 13 Dec 2011 15:52 |
| Visited recently, popular locals pub ,management seems to be changing, probably a good thing as pub is popular for its food but the place is dirty and toilets terrible, needs a refurb, however the three cask ales were fine although rather expensive. aquickpint - 3 Nov 2011 12:20 |
| we came in on sunday18th july, people were lovely, went to order was told 40 mins ,i said thats fine,an hour later we got our meal, but even still, that was ok,when we got our meal,it was just awful.new potatoes were all bad, broccolli was yellow and hard, peas were like bulletts,so were the carrotts, so no we didnt enjoy our meal, shame really because you couldnt fault the staff,so no we wont be going back, the rating of 5 is for the staff. 321carol - 20 Jul 2010 16:30 |
| Decent enough local pub (very local for me!) with standard range of hearty, rather than delicious, pub grub. The garden is nice for a summer pint and lots of play equipment for the kids. Clientele usually made up of older regulars who occupy the seats just inside the door, and builders/tradesmen who set up a cordon around the slot machines. A downside is that, although there is a covered smoking area in the back garden, many smokers (particularly the young lads) tend to mill around just outside the main pub entrance with their fag and pint, leaving families to run this gauntlet should they choose to enter. As this slightly intimidating sight is clearly visible from the main road, I can't help wondering if this is an affecting factor when people are deciding whether to pop in for a quickie... glenn9ball - 24 Dec 2008 09:43 |
