Popped in last night for a quick one. This pub seems to have changed personality many times over the years but I like what has been done recently.

The pub was fairly quiet but this was only a Tuesday night so understandable.

I had a good pint of Brewdog 5AM Saint - from the tap so presumably a keg but very good and a great alternative to a cask real ale. Other interesting beers were available on draught and in bottles so I will probably go back to try a few more. The food looked tempting too.

The former ONeills has received a bit of a trendy makeover and on my visit was a lot noisier and crowded than its neighbours. Plenty of people eating (and food looked and smelt good) as well as goups of drinkers both inside and out. The decor is somewhat eclectic with a mixture of high stools, tables and the odd sofa. Of particular note is a sofa arrangement in the back corner around a large marble topped coffee table. It is also worth mentioning that there were no spare seat when I arrived so I was forced to stand at the bar - if you want a table here at lunchtime get in early.

The drinks offering here was pretty impressive (the range reminded me of the Crown and Two Chairmen in Soho but don't know if its the same owners). Three ales on offer - Doom Bar, Wandle and Centurion Ghost Ale - as well as Addlestones and Aspells Cider. The lagers on tap ranged from the common (Becks, Staropramen and Heineken) to the more unusual (Peroni, Estrella Damm, Kirin, Pilsner Urquell) through to more exotic continental brands (Fruli, Leffe, Franziskaner)

I did like this pub but it was a bit noisy for a lunchtime and I found the Shepherds Tavern preferable on that basis. I would imagine it gets quite raucous in the evening so if that is you thing it is probably a place to visit.

Have been to the Market Tavern a few times now, and enjoyed each one. Always a good range of well kept guest beers (had good pints of Leeds Best and Sambrook's Wandle). Busy with the after work crowd (which included us) and had to stand all night, but thankfully plenty of staff around and relatively easy to get served.

Perhaps better than it should be, although it's already looking a bit tired and the food was so-so at best (to be expected if you watch the pre-prepared fare being offloaded into the cellar).

Entertaining for the enraged stares from the old buffer in the flat opposite who is not impressed by this place's increased popularity.

Now the Market Tavern, probably the trendiest of the four Shepherd Market pubs I went to - had bath ales' Golden Hare on, which is often a sign of upmarketness. bath ales seem to buck the trend for ale not being fashionable - though if it was. Just think. I would hope that if it were, it didn't entrain the kind of snobbiness that happens with wine.
Went outside because it was too full inside (and it was a nice evening until it started chucking it down). A gentleman in a fluoro jacket came along and told me to stand behind the line. I could not see the line and with several others agreed that it must be an imaginary line (though in fairness, it did result in people standing drinking in one street and not in the other round the corner, and chummy was not unpleasant about it).
I would return.
