| Well worth a visit if you fancy a trip back to the '70s! Uninspiring poorly cooked food. Uninspiring and rude hospitality. Uninspiring and drab decor. I can't imagine what a visitor from abroad would make of this place! Have the brewery got no pride? What a location. What a waste!! davethedog2000 - 1 Oct 2008 13:26 |
| Nice location for a pub but very much focused on its restaurant which does not sell very good food. Unhelpful staff - it is like going back to 1970s standards of British service. zoomy - 16 Jul 2008 17:41 |
| This was great. It offers good cheap food for over 55s, even Bank Holiday Monday. So we went for my 55th birthday. The Landlord reminded me of Basil Fawlty. I ordered chicken with potato for my daughter. He then came to our table and said, "does she want chicken or potato" We said chicken and potato. When it came it was chicken with chips. My wife took it back and they said, well I will change it but the girl definitely ordered chips. It only needed Manuel to appear for it to be Fawlt Towers, but we were not upset. It was really funny. | The previous comment about the non-smiling landlord is spot on. He's well known locally as a miserable sod. He's probably miffed as his previous pub - The Bull at Gosmore - has perked up no end since he moved on. anonymous - 19 Sep 2007 20:55 |
| Another Green King pub, another poor choice of real ale. Abbot and I.P.A. A smile from the landlady would have been some consolation. Mind you, I wasn't smiling when she stirred my wife's J2o and soda water - with a fork! There is definitely a restaurant feel to the place and the food was good - apart from my last mouthful of omelette which revealed a long black hair! fugglehops - 4 Jul 2007 20:24 |
