Handy for the station.

Looked like a proper community pub. I'd chosen to pop in at midday on the Saturday when England lost the Rugby World Cup. I'm sure this accounted for the livelier than expected atmosphere.

Imaging if England had won.

Beer wise - there is Cask Marque plague on the front but long expired. A couple of non descript Greene King efforts but I think Guinness is what the locals were on - and it was well served and well kept. A few nods to Irish heritage amongst the railway paraphernalia.

From the station you can`t see anything that would make you want to check this area out. But take a chance and just to the right of the station carpark`s exit you`ll be pleasantly surprised with this pub/restaurant. Nicely light and airy decorated, friendly staff and publican very helpful. Food is freshly cooked (the leg of lamb roast is superb!) and keenly priced. A nice collection of railway memorabilia inside and some outside made this pub feel like a real idealic village local. Full marks to the new owners for turning this pub around. With the rumoured 1500 new homes planned in place of the industrial site opposite, this will certainly be a lot busier. Enjoy it`s modern rustic village pub charm before then.

Since the other reviews on here 3 years ago, this pub is under new management, and they've renovated the floors and the toilets.

It's a touch expensive for drinks, but it's got loads of outdoor space and the food is excellent home-made stuff for reasonable prices. Friendly staff. Would be nice to have a greater selection on draught, but a very enjoyable local.

the food is awfull, tasted like it was all re-heated, the cook should be ashamed to send food out that bad, would not give to a dog, beer and food is well overpriced and the toilets are that bad that i would not use them, the staff are rude and ignorant, not welcoming at all, the landlords rottweiller is left to walk round the pub, would not be too bad if it did not smell and lay under your table when trying to eat.
avoid like the plague!

As a regular, I have drunk in the railway for years, and all I can say is how bad the place has got..
No atmosphere, bad beer, overpriced, toilets are still the same as they were 10 years ago.
They are constantly running out of products and the landlord just shrugs his shoulders, they dont care about the customers !!
The food is a shambles,,(who wants to eat their lunch with the landlords rottweiler under the table.)
everybody goes to the cafe or the fish bar down the road.
It is such a shame that this is the only pub in this small rural village, the nearest pub is a drive away.
Why is this pub still up and running is the question??
avoid at all costs !!
