This is an excellent place-a combination of a proper english pub selling well kept hand pulled beer coupled with an authentic french restaurant selling reasonably priced rustic gallic food.
We shall certainly return.

Have eaten here on several occasions both lunchtime and evening since it has reopened as a French restaurant .... both service and food have been superb every time ... excellent, authentic, rustic French cuisine ... everything fresh and homecooked. Prices very reasonable, unlike many of the restaurants in this area. The fact that this little restaurant is now always busy says it all. My only criticism would be that the lighting in the evening could be improved upon and the decor is not particularly to my taste. Food, service and value for money SUPERB!!!!

Been taken over by a nice French guy and now doing excellent food. Sadly they've had a fire, so the pub is closed until mid-December. Definitely worth dropping in for lunch once it's open again.

This is no longer a good pub.
It's host to a lot of aggression and the odd fight, and the two sides of the bar are either filled with loud mouthed drunk 20-somethings watching sport, or sarcastic older locals. It's like the reputations of the Duke's Head (formally bad) and the Carps (formally ok-good) have switched.

We gigged here on thursday the 24th of August. Absolutely excellent. The crowd were appreciative and the management are the best. This is a good pub with good atmoshpere and clean surrounds. Looking forward to our next gig here.
