Its a drinkers pub , mostly full of older guys watching the football or hitting the bookies next door . Cheap and cheerful for the town at 2.50 a pint of tennants , staff more curt than courteous . beersteer - 14 Jan 2010 17:30
Ok bar as far as atmosphere but ale was not good. Limited selection of real ale and what was on (Deuchars IPA) wasn't that good. Not hurrying back. Boongie - 15 Dec 2009 21:35
Went in at about seven o'clock last Thursday evening. The Caledonian 80 was cheap (I think £2.20 or thereabouts) and well kept, but the lovely Victorian decor was all but obliterated by big screen TVs on every wall showing Celtic's Champions League game at considerable volume. The weather also meant that the digital signal was choppy, so it was definitely no place for a quiet pint and the paper. Maybe it was the time, and I will try it again, but the TVs seem to be a permanent fixture. foffo_spearjig - 26 Nov 2006 20:45
The 80/- is well kept and whilst £2.10 is a good price it can be had for £1.99 in the Rose Street Brewery. Anyway, not a bad place at all. Music was at a reasonable volume on my visit. Didn't try the food. Staff and punters seemed friendly enough johnkn7 - 24 Oct 2006 10:59
Good beer, good food, good prices, helpful staff. Music can be a bit too loud. Zaphod_Beeblebrox - 21 Oct 2006 03:47
