Large, dingy, and low standard Greene King "Meet & Eat" pub on the main shopping street of Portswood in Southampton. It's large, with mixed seating areas in a mainly open plan around a central bar. Service was grumpy and unpleasant, and there was a long wait for the veggie burger at a non busy time.
Two cask ales, IPA and the seasonal special, Rocking Rudolph. Quiet background music clientele on our visit was mothers and children and the older unemployed who talked loudly, often using the word fuck in all its variants. Dogs welcome. Not a pub I'll be likely to use again, and I struggle to find a reason to recommend it.

Greene King pub with several distinct zones within the opened-out single bar layout. To the right of the front door is a large games area with three pool tables and various machines. On the left-hand side there is a raised seating area with a few low sofas plus some modern seating at a more sensible height for those wishing to eat. Behind that, there are some high stools is an area which looks like it is used for music events, yet more seating near the bar and then a beer garden out back. Two of three handpumps were working when I visited, dispensing a reasonable pint of IPA and also OSH.

This pub is getting better, with some live music instead of a Very Loud Pop DJ From Hell. Lots of pool tables and tellies, quiz machines and a fruit machine outside for the smoking gamblers (addictive personalities there...)

The staff have given me some problems recently, claiming they would not honour a valid voucher from Green King (their brewery) promising money off food (they did after I argued). The food isn't really that good either, but just remember it's only meant to be pub grub. For decent food ,you'd be better going over the road to the Thai restaurant called Sara's. Mmmm!

Great pub, going from strength to strength, since I first began drinking there in 1995

A good local pub, far too many students though. Drinks were OK when I last visited and the staff were friendly.
