pleasant pub near city centre, but does anyone know its there? alundra - 21 Dec 2007 11:26
Charactor pub for sure, in real shit location but seems to do everything right. All the nice oak beams and twee little touches. Beer is ok, well kept, staff polite and efficient. Good little pub. The_Man - 3 May 2007 22:41
I really like this pub. I found it by accident. Definitely well worth a visit. The best pub in Norwich. I was in there on a saturday afternoon and it wasnt to busy. Nice big fire athlough I doubt very much if its real. Next time I am in Norwich I will be back to visit this pub.Its a locals pub but dont let that put you off. dgriffin - 18 Apr 2006 12:07
This should be one of the best pubs in Britain. Roaring fires, oak beams and all that crap. But what's on tap for those of us who like our showers golden? Yup, you guessed it - Fosters. I'll say it again dear publicans, serve up that piss as your weak lager option and you're sticking two fingers up to your lager drinking customers. Shame, the scowling barmaid was a right bunk-up. anonymous - 16 Mar 2006 11:38
One of the greatest things about Norwich (besides providing an opportunity to witness the bizarre effects of committed inter breeding) is that hidden within the winding cobbled streets of the outer city centre and the green suburbs of the Golden triangle are numerous pubs that can only be described as gems. The Micawber, sandwiched on the quiet end of Pottergate road between the bottom of Cow Hill and the busy St Benedicts street, is a prime example of this endearing Norwich characteristic, being everything you really want from a boozer. The interior is classic deep panelled wood and contains around three or four slightly separate areas that rather than being partitioned in the crass way preferred by chain pubs, simply organically grows from the linking corridor that runs along the bar. These little rooms fulfil nicely differing purposes - the largest for footie watching (simply excellent as the atmosphere is always relaxed), and the others for eating or alternatively for a quiet but boozy chat. The drink selection is wide and affordable, the staff friendly and well, everything is just about great. Maybe the only minor quibbles are that it can become fairly busy particularly on a Sunday and the menu, while reasonable could be a little bit more varied and better produced. However, these slight problems simply don’t take the shine off a great little pub. 9/10 pgazz - 15 May 2005 18:55
