user reviews of the White Hart, Stradbroke

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Last of the 3 Stradbroke pubs I visited, the White Hart was extremely quiet. There were only 2 other customers. The bar area was quite cosy, but lacked atmosphere. The car park is at the rear. But you hesitate before parking here, as it feels more like a field! Adnams Bitter & Greene King IPA were the beers. Little to choose between this one and the Queens Head.

Popped in here at 2.31pm on a Saturday afternoon. Was told they'd stopped serving at 2.30pm. There were five of us after a quick drink but we were refused a drink even after we assured them that our bus was leaving soon and we'd be finished before the family at a table near the window (the only other customers in there). The pub must be doing well to turn its nose up at 15 turnover for virtually no effort - especially when there are two other pubs in such a small village. They had two ales on but no idea what the quality was like.

Under new ownership and fully refurbished, anyone would be delighted to have the White Hart as their local. The furnishings are traditional and very much in keeping with this lovely old building. In the colder months two open fires keep the place wonderfully warm and welcoming. Max (in addition to a sharp wit) has a good selections of ales, lagers and wines, though I tend to stick to the well kept Adnams! Alison provides a fine selection of food, with a snack, lunch and dinner menu. The prices are very reasonable and one can choose from a memorable steak and kidney pie, fresh battered cod, belly of pork and many others. Having eaten there on many an occasion, being somewhaqt idle, I can honestly say that the food is consistently of the highest standard. Something not achieved by many a restaurant with a kitchen full of staff!
