Ok, I haven't eaten here so can't comment on the food. Visited friends that live in the village and heard rumours that the new guy was putting off the locals. The basis of this seems to be that he had a shaved head. Granted south harting is a bit daily mail but that seemed a bit snobby. Went in and had a very decent pint of Otter. The pub is nice if a bit open, could be cosier if they had some tall bench seating around the fire. Landlord was pleasant enough, beer was well kept, log fire was nice! Not the greatest pub in the world but would happily go back when in the village. I would suggest they relocate the enormous TV somewhere more subtle as it's a tad intrusive where it is.

Do not go here to eat or sleep, under this management you will be very disappointed.

As I heard, the pub management has recently changed. Despite warnings of villagers (It can’t be that bad, can it?) we visited the White Hart at July 28th, 2011, and we are very sorry to say it can be that bad. It has been the most disappointing, if not most disgusting pub experience ever.
Premises and drinks: nice, nice beer garden. The weather was nice for us that day. Lager was ice cold and ales were warm, as they should be.
Staff: Overall one could say the intentions of the staff are good, with an exception of the male manager, Chris, who behaves rather unpleasant and gives you the creeps. The Pub would surely have much better chances without him around. The other staff behave with a ‘sorry, this is my first day’- attitude, which is charming in the beginning but annoying in the end: one expects to be professionally served. Another bad sign: staff and management drink openly and frequently. Too frequently, if you ask me.
Food: The food was, to put it friendly, bad. I had a meal called The carpet bagger (approx. GBP18.00 if I recall well) that looked as a marsh of potatoe mash, covered with gravy, and it visibly indeed consisted of the promised ingredients, but it was impossible to distinguish a mushroom from the cheese by its taste. The whole thing only tasted mashed potatoes and gravy. I am 54 years of age and I have never before been served worse food.
B&B: although we did not used the B&B- facilities, we ear- and eye witnessed an eager customer being put off by Chris, who brought up the possible presence of some of his pubic hairs in the bathroom, since the bathroom was not for exclusive use by the customers. Whatever appetite I had left vanished, no need saying the customer left, leaving the manager with his furry bathroom.
In this review I did not exaggerate or make up anything, nor have I deliberately left out things that were good.

Nice little pub this one. Tim Taylor 'Landlord' on tap which is always a good sign. Reasonable lunch, decent service.
