Visited here on a quiet weekday lunchtime when I was in the area. Interesting interior with odd paraphernalia adorning the walls and ceiling. A roaring fire in the large fireplace made the place feel cosy and homely on what was a chilly winter's day. Ok, beer first - there were two ales on offer and I plumped for a couple of pints of Rocking Rudolph (from Hardy Hanson - Green King), and while I don't normally go for GK beers this was nicely kept and went down well. Next the food - I had a main of chilli con carne, while my friend had fish & chips. Happily the chilli was decently spiced and tasty rather than the 'mild mince' you often find in pubs. My friend's fish & chips was huge and drew appreciative grunts, and while it's by no means fine dining the food was generous and hit the spot. The barman was friendly and attentive (offering various accompaniments for the meal) and all in all it was a pleasant lunchtime break.

A real local pub, with friendly owners happy to chat and an amazing collection of old rural bygones covering both the walls and ceiling. Huge inglenook fireplace. Nice to find a pub that has a landlord who has been there many years and has not sold out to the gastropub idea, unlike many pubs in this area. Food was good and home made, the sort of pub that caters for hungry people who like large portions. Curry came with lots of extras. OH said the beer was good. I drink cider and was pleased to find stowford press which I like. There is a beer garden with a courtyard. Local magazines to read if you want. Dog friendly, easy parking, and easy to arrange to meet people as you just look for the big red tractor sitting outside. They do B&B appartments too.

Beer was less than acceptable, cloudy and not looked after! food was ok/ generous portion sizes! not a regular visit in my opinion.

Lovely old traditional pub with pool table, darts and no juke box. Large open fire in winter.

Selection ales (3), cider (2), larger (?) start at 2.80 / pint. Good home cooking available every day plus Sunday roast - known for their Northchapel Sausages. Very generous portions and mostly below 10. Dog friendly and good beer garden at rear.

Also does accomodation (B&B) in a self contained detached cottage style building. Plenty of parking.
