This is now called The Scholars Arms

Greene King pub in the upper part of Southampton's city centre. As with most other pubs in this area (notable exception being Belgium & Blues), this is a bland utilitarian drinking barn. Family friendly, though not much to offer the children by way of entertainment. On weekends it appears to offer sports TV continuously on five screens. It does standard Greene King pub food - mostly meat and chips. And beer choice was limited to the three main GK brands - Speckled Hen, Abbot and IPA.

Very popular. We came in after the Southampton Marathon Fun Run. Tables were still dirty when we entered, but were quickly cleared away and cleaned.

It's a functional place of little character or interest.

Popped in just before 10 looking for a pool table to kill an hour as this place is notoriously dead in the week. Our expectations were realised, we were the only people in the place, surprising for such a central location. The one barmaid there couldn't quite contain her disappointment that she had to get up off her seat to serve us. At 10.45 we got "d'ya want another drink" to which we responded no thanks - music off, lights at the bar off, telly's off, barmaid gone. As quick as that. With poor bar staff, zilch atmosphere and a crappy expensive selection every time I have unfortunately frequented this pub it seems like the management and Greene King have thrown in the towel.

What a difference a manager makes! this pub was a dark dingy place over run with flies, a new manager started a couple of weeks ago, so we thought we'd give it another go. It now has light no flies and very happy staff! this will now become my local with well kept ales and at low prices. well done to new manager on you improvement so far.

First time in here and I liked it. This place has a laid back atmosphere for a Saturday and some good music!

Typical Greene King dross! Crap pub, bored staff, expensive microwave food. Why do all Greene King pubs want to be Wetherspoons? Shame could be a nice pub, has huge potential, but then again it's a Greene King pub, so any potential it has will be quashed. For an extra 2 mins walk you can go to Bedford Place for proper pubs like The Pensioners, The Red Lion and Th Alex.
