please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A great place to eat & drink. It is more food than pub these days, but still worth a trip just for a drink. It seems to have changed hands may times over the past 15yrs, but still retains the charm of an old world pub, without clashing with 21c needs. Currently, the staff are as good and more professional than ever. The beer is still great and the menu is excellent. Recommended

NICE WAITER SHAME ABOUT THE MANAGER!!!
I was invited to The Beagle on Boxing day by friends for dinner and was really looking forward to it as I had been there many times before and enjoyed good food there. There was some confusion about our booking as we had pre booked and they had no record of it and the restaurant was shutting in an hour and a half ! we promised to eat quickly but the manager was not in the least bit apologetic and made us 'promise' to order quickly ! Thankfully our meal was very nice and we had excellent service to our table particulary by a waiter who has served me on a few occasions whom I find very polite and charming. He at least showed some compassion about us being hurried we had a nice chat with him it turns out he is from Turkey NOT France as we had all thought - a really nice guy and a credit to the pub. We duly paid our bill BUT the manager still came to our table and whined on about 'how he wanted to go home'! like some inpatient kid !!! we complimented our nice friendly waiter but the manager proceeded to whinge on about him which we all thought was highly unprofessional. So no points to the manager who was scruffy, bordering on rude and running down his staff who are a credit to him I found him totally charmless. I will go back to The Beagle I happen to like it there despite the childish manager because the waiting staff are great !

A lovely roaring fire welcomes you but when you go to the dining area (armed with your wooden spoon!!!) its very cold. When we had food there it arrived cold and was really bad value for money...wont be going back there again.

I went to The Beagle with a party of 7 for my Dad's retirement dinner. We had previously booked to have a box at the football ground but found the staff extremely unhelpful even though we were spending over 800. The Beagle was plan B but we are really glad that we went there. The service was second to none and the food was lovely. We had already had a cake made elsewhere and the lady behind the bar wisked it away before my Dad saw it so that the waiter could bring it out again with the coffee as a surprise. We found the staff fantastic, they couldn't do enough to help and all wished my Dad a happy retirement when we left. The Beagle has just found seven new customers. I can only imagine that the previous writer went on a 'bad day'.

Two colleagues and I had been on one of our sites in Ipswich,(nearly froze our tits off), and found this charming looking old pub, having followed the signs,'TO THE BEAGLE', and looked forward to a couple of pints and a sandwich or something.
Firstly we were aggressively asked 'where are you sitting' ( the pub was empty ), and we said we would like to sit next to the lovely fire and have a sandwich ' you can't sit there and eat,- you can only have a sandwich - it's not allowed ' 'OK', said I, 'my friend here would like a steak or something' - 'it's not allowed, the SPOONS are not the right colour' (can you believe this - she meant that we had to sit around the other side of the pub, even though it was empty as I said - it turns out 'the spoons' relate to certain areas of the pub, where you can ONLY EAT CERTAIN TYPES OF FOOD!!. Second woman turned up, we asked for a sandwich menu - she gave us the hot food menu - we then tried to order sandwiches - 'it's not allowed' (despite what the first woman said!'
We ordered another drink -'can I use the same glass' said my chum ' no, it's not allowed' - and so on and on and on (for example, I gave them my card to 'put behind the bar' (normal practise), and she wanted me to sign it off straight away - ' you need to sign if you are going to move from here to another 'spoon''- can you believe this ??- the upshot of all this is that if I were you, I WOULD AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS - THE STAFF ARE AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE, RUDE, ABRUPT, IGNORANT, JOBWORTHS!!

Cheers and hope you have a nicer experience than we did in Ipswich - (don't go to this one though !!)

Regards,

Paul.
