My first visit since the new landlord took over, although when on that side of town I was a regular, so know it well.

Big improvement: although the last landlord kept good beer, the pub was more than a little frayed around the edges.

Both inside and out (including the garden) have been smartened-up.

I had Black Sheep and Youngs which were in good form (it's "red-nosed" Rae's local, so no worries on that front); the landlord was welcoming (just the right amount of banter).

It's not a "real ale pub" as such, it's a "local" that serves good beer.

I'll be back, preferably on a harsh Winter's day when I'll enjoy something black and strong in the leather sofa by the open fire.

Nice freindly pub, good beers, good ale, nice to see there is food on the menu too, really like the open fireplace too adds a warming effect definatly.

Loads better since the new landlord came here thats for sure.

now the puch is closed down the road had a few more in as its nice and close, Inkerman is not bad but The maypole further up the road other way, Old norwich road is well worth a look had some good fun in there lately.

Our local pub as it's the only half decent boozer west of the town centre and within a 10 minute stagger from our house. We used to go there before it changed hands and it has improved. The decor is fresher and Andy has introduced food to the menu which is a good thing. The beer is always pretty good. It's a little pricey but it's better than going to any of the pubs within a 10 minute walk radius. The staff are friendly and it's a pub that definitely fits into the category of "it's better than it looks from the outside". People are always friendly in the pub and they allow dogs. The punters are pretty loyal and there is a Quoits pitch at the back which is well used and maintained. They even have their own team.

Nice traditional pub about a mile from town. Four hand pumps with Springhead Leveller, Tom Woods Shepherds Delight, Youngs Bitter and a pump with a made up pump clip showing 'Festival Ale'. I enquired about the Festival Ale which was showing at about 6%. The bar maid did not know and said she would find out. She spoke to someone else who also could not tell me. As I like to know what I am drinking I opted for the Leveller.

The pub seems to be split into 3 areas. To the left of the bar is a tabled restaurant type area. To the right of the bar there are several leather Chesterfield type sofas. There is also a large screen TV in this area showing a well known satellite news channel. I know from previous visits that they do also show satellite football. Two newspapers were available to read on a table in this area. To the rear of the bar there is a pool table area. It seemed a pretty friendly pub with most customers being regulars. The beer was in good condition and I will certainly be back.
