This place was highly recommended by several friends so me and the wife decided to give it a whiz. Older reviews here suggest the same. But say as you find I say and unfortunately I recon my friends and other reviewers herein just had to have visited this place during far better times.

On arrival I found that although set in nice surrounding the decor within was pretty dull and well in need of redecoration.

I ordered Gammon Eggs & Chips for me and the Lamb Shank for the wife. Nearly an hour later I had to enquire as to the whearabouts of our food and was told that the latesness was due to it being 'Mixed Grill night'. A poor excuse and especially since the place wan't even that busy.

The food did eventually arrive not too long after to be fair. But to now be honest. It was pretty poor food. You can't really get Gammon, Egg & Chips that wrong and I found it OK to be fair once again, not great but not particularly bad. But the Lamb Shank with Potato & Veg was described by my wife as 'awful'.

Like I wrote above, say as you find and I find I won't be visiting this place again in a hurry. Nor shall I recommend it.

smells of chip fat, and the beer aint good and more exspensive than it should be. Fool plentiful but retro.

If you are fed up of gastro pubs, serving pretty food in quantities that wouldn't challenge a half starved field mouse for a price that would make your eyes water, then try this place. The staff and the clientele like myself are very down to earth, so a complaint about lack of silver service will probably result in close observation of the external road service!. Seriously though, they do proper he-man meals, as well as smaller portioned options. I have tried the 40 oz steak, which requires 24 hours notice. I usually starve myself all day to ensure that I get value for money!!. Prices are very good, steaks are cooked as you like them and the beer is very good also. So if youre definiteley not a food snob who likes criss crossed asparagus with hollandaise sauce and jus de something or other, then give this palce a try, you'll love it!!

Great food friendly staff, a REAL pub a bit out of the way though.
