| Really awesome pub for sports and boozing. The staff are however very unaccomodating and really do not make you feel welcome. Also the grumpy arsehole that looks like Chef from South Park just ruins the atmosphere. i can only assume that the posts below are in reference to the same guy. | Was in the Balham Tup last night, and I've never seen anything quite like the barman / manager / general waste of space. Food served to a friend was burnt to a crisp - "char-grilled mate" was the response, and after 10 minute sof arguing, he agreed to refund HALF the cost... The guy is a complete butt-hole, and people should avoid this pub until they get rid of him. | A decent sports bar, ruined by an incredibly rude manager. There are plenty of screens to watch sport and a decent selection of beers but the attitude of the bar man is beyond belief. Surly and sarcastic comments as you are being served. Simple requests to change channels or to move tables refused "because he said so". A friend of mine ordered a mixed grill, only to be served a plate of charcoal. When he complained to the bar man, he was met with disdain and told that it was "char-grilled, not burnt", before opening chastising the poor Polish chef in front of the whole bar for her mistake after begrudgingly giving a 50% refund. | I concur. I had similar experiences here. This pub has really gone downhill. On the other hand the Jackdaw & Rook is under new management and the new manager is really friendly along with her staff. Also, the food is great and served to you without your assistance!!!
