Please excuse my earlier badmouthing I am a complete halfwit. I really like this pub. I have been having gay and lesbian feelings and it affects my judgement on most subjects. This is the only pub that I dare go into in Balham. I try to be brave but I am in fact very very sad. Nobody likes me please be my friend. Im a tosser.

My mates and I were very excited about this pub getting a refurb. It used to be a great pub although a little rough around the edges. I don't think anyone thought that a Youngs Pub would tranform itself into this abomination. The first time I went back after it reopened I was optimistic. Trendy yes, but I was willing to look past that. We sat down, had a few drinks and it all fell to pieces. The new manager openly berated one of his staff for being 5 mins late for her shift. The seating is awkward and uncomfortable and there is no atmosphere. The menu is posh and overpriced. The breakfast menu doesn't even include a full english. After a heavy night out I'd rather eat my own arm than salmon and poached eggs. Althought the selection of lager and ales has grown this is not the type of place you can easily spend an entire night out in. It just feels strange and is a shadow of it's former self. I'll always have fond memories of the day when 20 of us took over the garden, on no sleep, and the original 'Asbo Sunday' was initiated, but those days are gone and I will not go back. Ever.

I can only reiterate what others are saying about the disastrous re-design of this pub. I have lived in Balham for years and this used to be my favourite drinking hole. I was horrified to go in there the other week to find that the owners have sold out to the yuppie brigade and in the process ripped the heart and soul out of what used to be a wonderful old Victorian pub with a great atmosphere. It has now become one of those sterile, tasteless gastro-bars full of patrons who love words like 'trendy' and 'funky' and which are worryingly becoming ten-a-penny in the Balham area. Avoid like the plague.

what a shame. what were they thinking of when they came up with this re-design of a classic London pub.

I popped in here last night. I used to like this place, it was a nice pub. It's now been done up and "Balham-ised." Balham is fast becoming an extension to Clapham and attracting all the trendies who spend spend spend on their credit cards.

Looking at the wine list, there was hardly a bottle under £20. Needless to say, we walked straight out as soon as we had walked in. Shame
