My girlfriend's just moved to the area, so we went for a wander to find her a local. We had a quick drink in here to test it out.

Plasma screens showing football. It wasn't Premier League, but flags and photos suggest this is an Arsenal-leaning pub. Clientele and barman seemed nice. Middle-aged men playing pool; younger crowd of men and women came in as we were there. Other than that quiet for a Sunday.

There was only one ale on, so we both had that. I forget the name, but it tasted good.

I won't rate this pub yet, but it's definitely worth another visit.

I had high hopes for this place. I do like backstreet locals and I liked the exterior and the interior. Staff were fine, but the beer 'Reservoir Dogs' was not great. And there were no nice alternatives to the standard smiths/strongbow/fosters. I suspect if I went back at a busier time and got a better pint I would give it 9 but just a 6 for this visit.

Paid my second ever visit to this pub last night. They had two real ales on Cottage Reservoir Dogs and Nethergate Sheep's Eye, both were well kept. They have a decent food menu and the food we tried was good. The service was really good and freindly. This place hasd a really nice atmosphere. It's obviously a locals pub but 'visitors' are clearly more than welcome. If I lived in Hackney I'd be happy to make this place my local.

Went here for drinks and dinner one evening and I loved the old boozer atmosphere, good beer and good food (although the fillet steak - for about £8 - nice though it was, wasn't a fillet!). But came here again as part of a 15-pub pub crawl at about 1pm on a Saturday and found it all closed up. What's going on?

This is a decent enough pub with friendly bar staff and harmless regulars. The Adnams was off, but Nethergate IPA and Friggin in the Riggin were available alongside a selection of standard draughts. The pub shows Sky Sports and there is a plasma screen in the main bar area and another in the pool table area to the left. There is a small decked balcony area out the back with stairs leading down to a good beer garden that backs onto the railway line.

I was starving when I walked in so I ordered a chicken roast dinner which took an hour to arrive. I think that the barman had forgotten to take the order upstairs as some people sat by me had their roasts within ten minutes of ordering and when I mentioned that I was still waiting my food arrived very promptly. I wasn’t really bothered though as I was watching the football and the roast was well worth the £6.95 that I had to pay for it.

I wouldn’t put this pub up there with the greatest pubs in England, but it is a good back street boozer and I would be very happy indeed if this was my local.
