I know this pub well and also think that the ub Tester's comments are rather unfair. This is a very traditional local's local and is geared more to men rather than women, though ladies are welcome. True, it did use to be in the Camra GBG, but real ale was withdrawn following bar refurbishment which restricted the available space; however, the pub has just started stocking bottled ales so the next step will depend on demand.

There's few pubs left in Selkirk just now, so please don't knock the ones who are not pretending to be anything their not!

Not family friendly.

Not new comer friendly.

Staff act unprofessionally, standard of service very poor.

Staff not respectful of customers.

From a customer who has had several poor experiences, I advise this pub be avoided by the those that appreciate good standards for there money.

Seen one elderly customer who was being openly disparaged by staff, despite suffering from severe bereavement and being present in the same room, was very shocked and very disappointed indeed.

Keep clear.

as a visitor that comes golfing in selkirk year after year, i and my friends find this pub, customers and staff very friendly and welcoming, very disapointed to read the pup tester's description.

It may have a traditional interior and some nice mirrors, but this is a ghastly pub full of ghastly people. And don't expect any real ale, it was deleted from the Good Beer Guide in May 2011 - heaven knows how it ever got in.

Surprised to read Pup Tester's description. As a first time visitor I found this a welcoming bar, with good service, friendly staff and customers. Another visitor, on holiday from London, said that he thought this was the best bar in Selkirk.
No real ale but the standard fizz was OK. Worth a visit.
