user reviews of the Old Crown, Kelston

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Feels like a real pub, locals in the wood-panelled bars, several small rooms, log fire, pub cat. Separate restaurant area but you can also eat at the bar from an interesting and reasonably-priced menu. Several veggie options. The pub is a Butcombe’s house so has their beers, plus the tasty Bath Gem and a guest or two.

I fully agree with TWG. Everything about this pub is first-rate.

I think I can add to the rather vacuous opening comment below.
The Old Crown is, first and foremost, a beautiful, atmospheric pub that functions chiefly as a local for villagers, but is equally at home to visitors who are seeking out good home-cooked fare and a decent range of cask ales. The beer was on fine form and it was a real pleasure on a wet Saturday afternoon to tuck oneself away into one of the numerous alcoves and enjoy a cosy, mellow pint, enjoying the pervasive savoury smell of good food coming from the kitchen.
The place appeared to be managed by a young but very business-like and organised woman who was taking several bookings for food - surely a good sign.
That said, the service was perhaps rather slow and I can't deny there is room for improvement in that area.
Still, a minor glitch. On balance a cracking traditional pub well worth the drive out to visit.

Lovely traditional pub, but unfortunately staffed by sausage rolls.
