Seems to have picked up a bit recently. Usually a choice of a weaker ale (Greene King IPA) and a guest ale. Fridays are fairly lively; Thursday quiz is popular; Monday's free pool night seems to be attractive to younger people; probably the best place in town to watch the football. So, picking up a little. Not sure about the food. Mr_FRISKY - 11 Apr 2010 11:22
Well, yet another change of management and certainly not for the better. It's russian roulette with the beer. The attitude seems to be: take it leave it, we don't give a f ... Some days it is passable; some days it has already passed on. Other than the football there isn't a lot left to recommend here now. What a waste. Mr_FRISKY - 8 Nov 2009 23:18
Went to the Bucks Yeoman last Christmas, ordered a meal which turned out to be Chicken Tikka Masala but without the chicken !!!! It was replaced but where did they get the uncooked chicken from, as all the meals come pre-packed. I gave it one last try at Easter and ordered a steak, I waited and waited and waited and then asked. The "meal" was eventually thrown at my table and it was obvious that it had been cooked, left out for vthe flies in the kitchen for 15 minutes and then brought out by one of the staff in the understaffed bar. It was cold, greasy with cold chips and shrivelled peas. It was impossible to sit anywhere neart the toilet access doors due to the overpowering smell of dozens of disenfectant blocks in in urinals. I have made complaints to the pub group management before about the pub and received a reply about "maintaining our high standards" and "re-training programmes" being carried out but I couldn't see any evidence of it., which is a shame because the pub has many good amenities and is very well sited to be a success. cliveteare - 3 May 2009 18:58
Almost forgot. The blackboards are in danger of going critical and forming a black-hole. I swear even the underside of the toilet seat has been painted black with a notice proclaiming "Fosters - £2 per pint" writtten on it. Of course, that could just be the infamous local sense of humour. Mr_FRISKY - 29 Dec 2008 13:23
Well, popped in on my way home from work the other day and it appears there has been progress! 3 real ales available. Think they change each time a barrel runs out so looks promising. Obviously this isn't going to rival the Hop Pole or even the King's Head in town but if you're on the south-side of town you could do a lot worse than pull in for a pint. So, there's decent beer again, plenty of entertainment and plenty of parking. That garners an extra point in my rating for sheer effort and a well done to the management. They're certainly doing their part. The free pool night certainly looks tempting with some decent ales to sup. Mr_FRISKY - 29 Dec 2008 13:17
